Physical Science Credit

Physical science is a requirement on both our Recommended Track and for our Minimum Graduation Requirements.

The requirement for Physical Science can be met by taking either a course that includes a 1-semester introduction to Chemistry and a 1-semester introduction to Physics, as found in our Introduction to Physics & Chemistry Course (IPC), or by taking a course in a specific discipline of the physical sciences. Examples of disciplines that would qualify include:

  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Astronomy
  • Geology
  • Meteorology

Courses that are not eligible for physical science credit include courses that are survey courses across multiple disciplines of the physical sciences, such as Earth Science. Also not eligible are applied sciences courses that may include elements of a physical science, but are not focused on the specific discipline of physical science itself, such as Engineering, which includes physics, but is not focused on teaching physics as a physical science. For questions about whether a specific course will satisfy the physical science credit, please speak with your advisor.
