In the Ignatian tradition, an effective counselor is guided by the “First Principle and Foundation” in The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, that man is “born to praise, reverence, and serve God our Lord, and by this means to save his soul.” Through example and instruction, parents teach their children to trust in the Holy Spirit as they complete their daily work, which will naturally lead them to the vocation that God has planned for them. Parents know their students better than anyone else and are therefore in the best position to guide them in all aspects of their journey through life.
